Songwritting Tips

Ever get writer's block? I think most of us have at one time or another. To spark some creativity, try starting a song with just a bunch of drum loops that you haven't used before. Create some two or four bar grooves, then either hum along a melody, or play your instrument while the groove loops. Sometimes this can get your creative juices flowing, and who knows, you may come up with a song that's nothing like you've written before.

The chorus of a song usually opens up compared to the verse of a song. It's common for drummers to play the verses with a closed hi-hat, and the chorus with a ride cymbal. Also, try adding a percussion loop to the chorus to bring the section alive.
